Sharing my investment journey
WELCOME TO ENDSLEIGH PLACE

From a young age I have been interested in stocks and shares. I think my introduction to the concept was through my first iPod Touch, flicking through the 'Stocks' app that Apple forces upon all its users. Of course, I had no clue what any of it meant; I was more interested in Temple Run or Doodle Jump.  Nevertheless, after messing around on a some random demo investing account, then putting it down after about five days of playing with it, and logging back in again a few years later out of curiosity to be greeted by (an entirely virtual) overall return of about 40%, I got the message: the stock market is a way to grow wealth.

Upon graduating from university, where I took a couple of classes on economics, stock markets, and investing, I decided to start investing for myself for real. Since then I have turned investing into one of my favourite hobbies. I aim for it to yield benefits for me and my family's future. I know my risk appetite, and I invest accordingly - balancing ETFs, individual shares, and other asset classes, to mitigate risk and achieve at least average market returns. I don't believe I'll beat the market consistently, but sometimes I might.

"Why not just invest in only an S&P 500 tracker, if you know you won't beat the market?" I hear you ask. Well, because that would be boring, and an example of putting all my eggs in one basket. Picking companies or even funds to invest can be fun, and seeing your hypothesis on a company be proven right can be incredibly validating. I do invest in an S&P500 tracker (equal-weighted), and build it out on a monthly basis with regular investments; but it represents just a small part of my ETF portfolio, which is about half of my overall portfolio.

Anyway, this blog exists because I'd like to share my journey with you. It's not going to be a chronology; I don't have the energy to account for every day. I will however share my thoughts on companies, funds/ETFs, some asset classes, and other elements I find interesting, that I think you will find interesting too. Hopefully, we'll all learn something.
